STILES, GILBERT GAYLORD

Gilbert Gaylord Stiles (1850-1913), was born on May 22, 1850, at Feeding Hills, Agawam, Hampden County, Massachusetts, son of Curtis Henry Stiles (1822-1856), and Mary Clara Olds Gaylord Stiles.

On December 23, 1874, he married Nancy Gilman Smith (1855-1945), at Tolland, Connecticut. They had two sons : Walter Gilbert Stiles (1876-1939), and Curtis Henry Stiles (1881-1940).

In 1880, he was a mould maker, silversmith, and silver plater at New Haven, Connecticut.

In 1881, he removed to 16 Allen Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts.

In 1889, he became a Masonic member of the Star of the East Lodge, New Bedford, Massachusetts.

He was Member No. 7825 of the United Order of the Golden Cross, a Masonic Order of teetotalers (teetotumers) that demanded prohibition from alcohol fifty years before it became a movement in the United States.

In 1905, he is listed living at 212 Grinnell Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts.

He worked for Pairpoint Manufacturing Company.

He died of Bulbar palsy on April 3, 1913.
