DELIKAT, THOMAS JAN

Thomas Jan Delikat (1876-1948), was born in Yawornik, Poland, on December 3, 1876, son of Jan and Malgorzata Delikat.

He arrived in America April 26, 1896.

On February 10, 1898, he married Anna Bator(1877-1946), at Newark, New Jersey. They had three daughters and a son : Catherine, Keil, Lottie, and Florence.

Delikat was a part time stamp dealer in Hillside, New Jersey, who was a variety Store owner by trade. His Variety Store is listed in the 1910 Newark City Directory as a Cigar Store at 523 Market Street, Newark. Four years later the 1914 Newark City Directory has his store located at 519 Market Street, Newark, New Jersey.

On January 18, 1919 he filed a patent for a pharmaceutical preparation. Note his signature in 1919 is significantly different from that in 1931.

On September 25, 1919, he filed for a patent on a combination hat pin and point protector.

The 1930 U. S. Census lists him living at 11 Locust Street, Hillside, New Jersey. His occupation is reported as a Glazier working in the leather business.

Business letter dated October 14, 1931 written by Thomas Delikat to Kenneth Smith of Rockford, Illinois, a customer who wants to sell him stamps. Delikat's letter suggests that English is certainly a second language for him.

He died on January 16, 1948, at his home, 488 Hunterdon Street, Newark. He is buried at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Orange, New Jersey.
